Dreft — Your Everyday Ally
For everyday stains, simply scrub the affected area with a small amount of washing-up liquid such as Dreft.
Bleach to Brighten the Stone
Bleach can be used, but mainly on exterior surfaces. A small amount of bleach can help restore the brightness of the stone. If used indoors, it should be applied sparingly, and the area must be well ventilated to allow chlorine fumes to dissipate.
Cleaning Without Damaging the Stone
Natural soap made with linseed oil, talcum powder, K2R, or cellulose thinner can also be effective in removing stains without damaging the stone. Simply apply the product and leave it on the stain for anywhere from a few minutes to several hours, depending on how old the stain is, to allow it to absorb the residue. Then rinse with clean water — your surface will look refreshed.
Dry Sanding
For stains that are deeply set, gently dry sand the surface using a very fine abrasive sponge or sandpaper. Be cautious and use a light hand to avoid altering the finish of the stone.
