In addition to blue stone, Carrières de Maffle also likes to work with other Belgian stones. Tournai® stone, also known as “Tournai Black” is much more difficult to find. The extraction of large dimension stones is limited in Belgium.

However, for restoration work on listed buildings such as a church, Carrières de Maffle has the solutions to provide this beautiful stone.

The Lemay Quarry deposit, supplier of large dimension stone, by dividing into a succession of thin benches. It provides a very fine-grained stone characterised by the presence of crinoid items and shell debris. However, Sagrex HeidelbergCement Group has taken over Carrière Lemay. Tournai® stone is more readily available, but only for large restoration projects.

Outside, Tournai Stone® must be laid in a quarry bed.
